Washington County Recorder's Office:

The elective office of the COUNTY RECORDER was the first office created by the Constitution of the State of Indiana in 1816.  It is the primary duty of the COUNTY RECORDER to record instruments submitted for recording and maintain those records for perpetuity.  Indiana recorders have been recording and maintaining documents for over 193 years!  Documents recorded in the recorders office include deeds, mortgages, releases and assignments of mortgages, miscellaneous liens, federal tax liens, and military discharges just to name a few.  All documents are public records with the exception of military discharges (DD214s).  Records are available to the public by photocopies, microfiche, or digital scanned images.
